Amazon, the online retailer based in Seattle, is boosting its content game in India with its forthcoming launch of Amazon Prime Video, its on-demand entertainment service. A cricket and showbiz themed series together with a crime-based show will also be included in its content for the Indian market.
The first show on Amazon, named ‘Power Play’, will be generated by Excel Entertainment, the production house co-owned by Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani. As director, Power Play will have Karan Anshuman. The second show will be a gangster epic set in Mirzapur, Uttar Pradesh.
Producers will be present on the global platform of Amazon (also for branding and promotion) and shows will be in Hindi and English. The company’s website, Prime Video will allow users to have access to Amazon Original Series and Movies together with movies and TV shows from worldwide content providers as well as from Indians.
It is to be noted that the company is already developing home-grown content and acquiring movie titles. Amazon Video India’s director and country head is on his part, enhancing its negotiations with well-known music and movie companies such as Balaji Telefilms and Yash Raj Films.
